Tuscany retreat FAQ

Dear Writers,

Your Tuscany retreat is going to be special, and we want you to be able to book it, insure it and relax, knowing that we’re taking care of the details. If you have any questions, you can always reach us at info@alanwatt.com. Here are some of the frequently asked questions we’ve received.

what happens if I can't go on retreat?

The best way to protect yourself from unforeseen circumstances is to purchase trip
insurance and we are requiring proof of travel insurance from all our guests.
Travel Insurance can protect you in case:

  • You cancel your participation in the retreat
  • The retreat is canceled due to teacher illness, emergencies, acts of God, weather,
pandemics, natural disasters, or not enough participants
  • Lost baggage
  • Medical expenses and the cost of repatriation should you become ill or injured

We recommend finding a travel insurance company that offers the option for a
comprehensive “cancel for any reason” policy. If you cancel your retreat – for
any reason – your airfare, hotel, retreat costs, etc. up until 48 hours prior to travel,
will be covered. Usually, according to their guidelines, you must contact and purchase
the travel insurance policy within 15 days of making your deposit with us and buying
your airline tickets or incurring any costs for any part of your travel. You can also just
insure your air tickets.

what are your payment and cancelation policies?

A. The Deposit Grace Period

Guests have a 7-day grace period after placing their initial deposit to change their mind and receive a refund (less the 5% processing fee). After this 7-day period, the deposit becomes non-refundable but may be applied as credit toward another retreat under the timelines below.

B. Cancellation & Credit Schedule

Because we incur significant costs when reserving retreat venues and staff, we cannot offer cash refunds for cancellations outside the initial 7-day deposit grace period.

Credits are applied in the following circumstances, and can only be applied toward another retreat (no workshops, consultations, or other services). We offer the following credit schedule:

  • 90+ Days Before Retreat Start Date: You will receive a 100% credit of your total payment toward another Alan Watt retreat within 36 months.

  • 60–90 Days Before Retreat Start Date: You will receive a 50% credit of your total payment toward another Alan Watt retreat within 36 months. The remaining 50% is forfeited.

  • 0–60 Days Before Retreat Start Date: No refunds or credits toward other retreats will be issued.

C. Universal Non-Refundable Circumstances

To maintain the integrity of our retreats and cover non-recoverable costs (such as venue deposits and staffing), our cancellation policy is strictly enforced regardless of the reason for cancellation. No refunds, partial refunds, or credits will be issued for:

  • Travel Disruptions: Including flight cancellations, missed connections, or travel delays.

  • Personal Emergencies: Including sudden illness, injury, family emergencies, or changes in work schedules.

  • Global, Political, & Environmental Events: Including wars, civil unrest, endemics, pandemics, earthquakes, or other acts of God.

  • Partial Attendance: Including arriving late or choosing to leave the retreat early.

Mandatory Recommendation: Because we cannot make exceptions to this policy for any reason, we strongly encourage all participants to purchase comprehensive “Cancel For Any Reason” (CFAR) travel insurance to protect their investment.

How to Initiate a Cancellation

To initiate a cancellation, you must send a formal email stating your intent to the Community Relations Manager at info@alanwatt.com.

The date the email is received will serve as the official timestamp for determining your eligibility for credit.
